1. Best free game: Pokémon Go
- A game franchise from Nintendo and Niantic, Pokémon Go is a location-based augmented reality game that takes players to real locations in their quest to become Pokémon masters. The game earned nearly $1 billion its first year and was dubbed 2016’s most used app.
- While most of that can be attributed to nostalgia, it still remains one of the best free games available for iOS and Android devices. And while you might not see as many people playing it, its storyline is just as engaging as ever.
2. Best strategy game: Fortnite
Battle Royale - The free-to-play Fortnite: Battle Royale has taken over mobile phones. While it’s not directly a business strategy game, it does require strategic and quick-thinking skills to succeed. By teaming up with others and then trying to kill each other in a last-man-standing type scenario, players are forced to make split-second decisions with little information. This is a great simulation for dealing with unpredictable situations that crop up on an everyday basis as an entrepreneur. One can only hope he or she survives long enough to enjoy collecting V-bucks and unlocking new gear.
3. Best indie game: Monument Valley 2
The first Monument Valley game is remembered fondly by many gamers and won numerous awards. It’s an impeccably designed puzzle game that’s engaging to play for players of all ages. In fact, when it was first released, Apple specifically promoted it as being appropriate for younger players.
Monument Valley 2 expands on what made its predecessor great and will likely be hailed as a landmark mobile game when it launches later in 2017. For our money, though, we think there are plenty of other indie titles that will be considered best-of-the-best by 2022. Games like The Last Night and Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP are already making waves in early access stages, hinting at their potential greatness before they launch to mainstream audiences next year.
4. Best FPS (first person shooter): PUBG Mobile
Best Mobile Games in 2022. Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition (originally released on PS4 and Xbox One, but it will be ported to mobiles) is one of Square Enix’s best role playing games. The game has been released with different names for different devices: It was first launched as Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition for iOS, then for Android devices. It's a full-fledged version of an already well-received game that lacks some features from its predecessors to provide a better gaming experience on phones and tablets. In its pocket form, gamers can play through Episode Ignis storyline missions as they unravel Noctis' fate while navigating by foot or car across Eos.
5. Best RPG (role playing game): Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition
- At first, a lot of people were bummed out when Final Fantasy XV wasn’t released on their platform, but it seems Square Enix is making up for it with an adorable spinoff. This isn’t your traditional Final Fantasy. It looks like a mobile game (and plays like one) with microtransactions and all.
- If you can get past that, though, it’s surprisingly fun with awesome graphics and a good storyline (even if it isn’t canon). The best part? It’s free! You don’t have to spend a dime to enjoy every aspect of the FFXV Pocket Edition.
